Mangoes and Indians have been romantically involved for many years. Everyone has a particular place in their heart for “the king of fruits.” Our nation grows around 1,000 different types of mangoes in particular geographic areas, making it the greatest mango grower in the world.
The principal mango varieties exported by the exporters include Alphonso, Totapuri, Kesar, and Banganpalli. Mangoes are also exported in three different forms: mango pulp, fresh mango, and mango slices. Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Pakistan, Yemen, Thailand, and the Netherlands are the top rivals of Indian mango exporters on the global market. According to current statistics, almost 30 metric tonnes of mangoes have been transported to nations including Ireland, the EU, the UK, and the Middle East.
Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are India’s top organic mango growers. Uttar Pradesh is the leader in mango production, with a share of 23.47% and the greatest productivity.
Indian exporters of mangoes export a variety of varieties.
The worldwide market receives a wide variety of mangoes from Indian exporters. Bangladesh, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Nepal are the main recipients of this fruit’s imports from India. Among the many popular varieties of this fruit are:
One of the most well-known mango varieties in the world is called Alphonso. It is a seasonal fruit that is available from around the middle of April until the end of June. Its pulp is luscious and non-fibrous, and it has a creamy, rich texture. Alphonso mangoes have golden-yellow skin with a hint of scarlet when they are fully ripe.
Kesar: India exports a significant quantity of kesar mangoes. It is grown in Gujarat’s Girnar foothills and is also known as “Gir Kesar.” They are well-known for their pulp, which has a vivid orange hue. After the monsoon season, they are planted sometime in October.
Pairi: This famous kind from India has an oval shape and weighs between 250 and 450 grammes. This particular fruit has a strong smell, is juicy and fiberless, and is of outstanding quality.
Neelum is often cultivated in areas like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu and is well known for its distinctive flavour, lovely form, and flowery perfume.
It is mostly grown in the northern region of India and is also known as the Banarasi Langra. It is collected in the latter part of July and, even when fully ripe, maintains a greenish tint.
Dashehari is a well-known cultivar from northern India that is renowned for both its delectable flavour and beautiful perfume.
Obstacles that mango suppliers must overcome
While India’s exports of mangoes have been continuously rising, the amount still seems quite small when measured against the country’s entire production and the global export market. The fact that most fresh mangoes are sold locally is one of the main reasons India does not export much. According to a National Horticultural Board study, the Philippines and Thailand are the primary exporters of mangoes to Southeast Asia, whereas India and Pakistan are the primary mango suppliers to West Asia.
The US has prohibited the importation of mangoes from India due to the use of pesticides there. Despite the prohibition being lifted in 2007, there are still not enough exports.
